Santorum Fucks Up, Tells Truth For Once: GOP Needs Declining Economy To Win

Pema Levy of TPM tells us about it. Here’s a sample of what Santorum said:

“You hear now the media starting to say, oh well, looks like the economy is getting better,” Santorum told supporters in Missouri Saturday night after winning the Kansas caucuses. “You know, the economy may be getting better and Republicans may lose their edge on that issue. Well, if that was the only issue in this race, that may or may not be the case, we don’t know.”

No doubt Santorum would prefer to run a campaign based on opposition to contraception, or advocating prescribed prayer in public schools, or denying abortion to rape victims, or denying marriage to LGBTs, but I suspect most Americans will cast their votes based on “the economy, stupid.”

I wonder how Rmoney (sic) feels about Man-on-Dog’s slip of the tongue…

Santorum has the “moral values” voters locked up. They don’t care that much about the economy, the wars, human suffering, of anything else other than religion. They want somebody in the White House who believes the wacky stuff they believe because it makes them feel good. And it’s all about emotions for right-wingers.

Welcome, Ben! That’s an impressive news blog you’ve got!

Santorum is one of a small number of people (including Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich) for whom, if one of them were to become president, I would find a way to leave the country. I don’t think America’s voters in general are quite that crazy yet, but then again, I assumed at the beginning of this election season that none of those people would take a single primary… boy, was I wrong!

(BTW, for some reason, your comment landed in the spam box. I have no clue what combination of words did that, but I’m glad I took the trouble to read it rather than deleting it unread.)

(Also BTW, after reading your blog for a bit, I’ve blogrolled you.)
