Newt’s Comm Director Edits Newt’s Wikipedia Entry

Jonathan Turley tells us all about it. Of course, this is not the first time or even the hundredth time this sort of thing has happened. But it almost beggars belief that Gingrich campaign communications director Joe DeSantis could think that such changes would be allowed to stick despite Wikipedia’s constant monitoring of new or changed material to prevent… well, to prevent exactly what DeSantis was trying to do.

Among other changes, DeSantis attempted to delete all references to Newt’s multiple marriages, as well as details regarding Gingrich’s proven ethical violations. DeSantis did not stop at Newt’s entry, but attempted to modify the entry about his current wife Callista. Eventually DeSantis revealed himself and his role to Wikipedia staff when he decided to get into an argument with them about his changes.

I think there’s a picture of DeSantis in the unabridged dictionary, beside the word “hubris.”

‘Hubris’ is a good word. I would have used ‘feces.’ According to the Catholic Church Newt wasn’t formerly married, because they weren’t Catholic marriages.

MandT, the Catholic Church was bad enough when it was powerful a few centuries ago. And IMHO it hasn’t improved with age. But this whole Wikipedia squabble is Newt’s fault and his alone… his comm director surely knows better.

Wikipedia would be fully proper to post a note on Gingrich’s page mentioning the edits. While its done a lot by people with an axe to grind or whatever it is still wrong and should be punished…Then again maybe under the “related links” section we should have some links to asshole, scumbag, liar, etc.

Fallenmonk, apparently you weren’t recognized as pre-approved because your email address has changed. Sorry about that.

Based on observation of their past actions, Wikipedia staff will revert the entry to a suitable state with all relevant facts in place and then lock it to prevent further public edits. After that, not even the Goddess herself can modify it. Hell, not even Anonymous can modify it! 🙂
