It’s like that moment when one realizes the love is gone. I just don’t care anymore. America is dead. My life looks short now and I’m going to spend it peacefully and admittedly—selfishly. For years we posted, analyzed, influenced, investigated, hoped and renewed hope. All that’s gone. America is a monster that must be destroyed before democracy can rise for its ashes.

karmanot, I confess to similar feelings on a daily basis. But I can’t help feeling… in my bones, not based on any externals… that something remains for us to do.

Bill Moyers is one of the people I respect most in the entire world. He is clearly not ready to give up yet; how dare I abandon the fight? So I’m crippled… Moyers is about 15 years older than I am; I can’t let my disability stand in the way of doing something.

No one ever said blogging would save the world or the nation. That doesn’t mean it can’t be saved.

Courage, my friend. You may still fight without taking the point position all the time. Enjoy your well-earned retirement. I’m not there yet; I still have to have one more go at the monster.

And also with you, Michael. My hope… for your sake, my sake and the world’s sake… is that you decide to remain with us for a while. All your friends need you, but we need you simply to BE, not to accomplish great feats. Take good care of yourself, friend.
