Shriek!!…. is that a trick or a treat?

No treat for me, ellroon. Whoever searched Google on “michele bachmann hot”, it wasn’t me. Stella is at my absolute tolerance limit for “nutso” … and at least she’s liberal! 😆

As screwed as we are it is at least somewhat comforting to know that that is not going to happen. Probably!

Fallenmonk, if I had to bet today, I’d put money on Mittens. But his corporation-stripping past might just catch up with him. I wish Obama weren’t so unpalatable; I’d love to be a Democrat again, but I can’t vote for a man who puts out hit contracts on people with no shred of due process, imprisons people indefinitely on his personal say-so, etc. True, he’s not quite as evil as any of the GOP candidates. But I’m too old for the “less evil” bullshit. When I voted for Obama in 2008, I had some real hope that his apparent weaknesses would be more than balanced by a largely unrevealed good side… hey, he is a wonderful speaker. But it was not to be. He’s a de facto Republican. I don’t know how I’ll vote in 2012, but I am not happy with the field of candidates, D and R, that look likely right now. And Obama has a lot of backtracking to do to atone for his civil liberties violations… and that will never happen.

Who would have imagined back in the beginning during the Grant Park speech, which found cynical old Jesse Jackson, weeping for the historical election of Hopey Changey, that Obama would be the most divisive President in modern history. His craven opportunism and incompetence have destroyed the Democrat brand and for all intents and purposes has completed the destruction of American democracy. I have lost several friends so far over the argument that Obama is the lesser of two evils.

karmanot, Grant Park is another place that holds fond memories for me. I was there on my 50th birthday in 1998, hearing a concert in that very same shell, in which cello virtuoso Janos Starker performed the Dvorak concerto with the Grant Park Symphony. The evening was soggy enough to soak strings, but despite that, Starker’s intonation was absolutely flawless. Stella was with me. It was grand!

So I try not to think too often about Hopey-Changey in Grant Park on that later occasion. I wish America could have come to its senses on racial matters early enough that my former congresswoman, the late and truly great Barbara Jordan, could have become our first Black president. But times had not changed enough in her day. And so we have Zero. Let me list his virtues: he’s an excellent speaker, and, um, uh, …

Speaking of excellent speaking, or their Halloweenish failure, what did you make of Governor Perry’s performance yesterday? Does he do that kind of thing once in a while? Is there something unique about Texas that explains how it gives us both Bush Jr. AND this fool?

Phil – Perry’s foot-in-mouth disease this week is less interesting to the typical Texan than the redistricting court case taking place in San Antonio. If the second Republican-driven redistricting theft in a decade doesn’t leave us with Perry as governor-for-life, we will be lucky indeed.
