He doesn’t have a choice. The Status of Forces Agreement that the Shrubbery signed with the Iraqi government mandates it, and the Iraqis won’t sign a new one, That was the ‘legal’ basis for being there, and it expires on December 31.

And yet thousands of mercenaries contractors, many of them American, apparently will remain in Iraq. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad U.S. troops are being pulled out… my whole attitude toward Iraq has always been “ill-begun is half undone.”

Mittens, apparently utterly lacking a sense of irony, is making scathing denunciations of Obama for abiding by an agreement that Dubya signed. Then again, I’ve never met a Republican who wasn’t irony-challenged…

Afterthought: Swopa on FDL notes that “you can rely on Obama to remember his progressive campaign promises, if only (to paraphrase Churchill) after exhausting all of the possible alternatives.”
