Cain Pro-Choice? Bye-Bye, Herman!

Whatever I expected of quirky, largely entertaining GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain, it wasn’t this, said in an interview by Piers Morgan and reported by FDL’s Blue Texan. Here’s Cain:

No, it comes down to is, it’s not the government’s role — or anybody else’s role — to make that decision. Secondly, if you look at the statistical incidents, you’re not talking about that big a number. So what I’m saying is, it ultimately gets down to a choice that that family or that mother has to make. Not me as president. Not some politician. Not a bureaucrat. It gets down to that family. And whatever they decide, they decide. I shouldn’t try to tell them what decision to make for such a sensitive decision.

I didn’t like the guy or his policy pronouncements worth a damn, but I’m going to miss his feisty and idiosyncratic outbursts. After this one, though, no GOPer will want to be in the same room with him. “Bye-bye; thank you for flying GOP!”

UPDATE: of course it was too good to be true. Digby quotes a much more extensive segment of the interview, and it sounds as if the whole back-topic of the discussion was “rape and incest” at the time Cain said that. The quote is clearly out of context. Please read Digby’s post. I think Blue Texan is mistaken about this.
