… and right-wing “journalism” sinks to a new low. How do these people dress themselves in the morning?

Read that article over at Bryan;s. Howley is a stupid bastard who deserves to get the book throw at him

  • NTodd Pritsky  On Monday October 10, 2011 at 1:01 pm

He was all proud of getting pepper sprayed. Lemme tell ya, dude, I saw Medea Benjamin in some video, and that wasn’t her first time–in fact, she and I were shot at and teargassed together by the IDF, so this incident is barely a blip on her courage radar, unlike the guards you laud. Motherfucker.

jams and NTodd… IMNSHO, journalists should report the story, not be the story, let alone provoke the story. Howley should be jailed until he receives a “speedy and public trial.”

NTodd, I presume it’s Howley you’re addressing your last sentence to. If it was aimed at me, I assure you, I didn’t praise the guards, and I never fucked my mother.

  • NTodd Pritsky  On Monday October 10, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Of course “dude” was directed at the douchebag “journalist”, not you! His whole act and article pissed me off, but the conclusion took my rage up a notch.

  • Steve  On Monday October 10, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Pissed me off, too, NTodd, and I’ve never even been pepper-sprayed. It’s getting to where dissent is once again a dangerous business as surely as it was in the old days. Howley contrived his own situation, and AFAICT he stood for nothing… and thus has nothing to be proud of.

    The Beginning is near!

    “The Beginning is near!”

Exceptionally well-put, MandT! It has to start sometime and some way… America carries no exemption from the patterns of history.

  • MandT  On Monday October 10, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Exactly so Steve. this is where our understanding of history comes into play. I have realized for some time that ALL the cables news channels are propaganda tools, and old favorite MSNBC, no less so. Their balanced act includes racist and anti-Semitic old SOBS like Pat Buchanna and freak black fascists like Ron Christie. The Internet(s) is about the only place to discover what’s true through the manufactured reality. Americablog has the best coverage on OWS and Firedog on the rest. Peace!

Thanks to the kind efforts of training instructors in the military and the police academy I have been tear-gassed and pepper sprayed multiple times, and it is not an enjoyable experience.

Pepper spray is the pits because it isn’t water soluble and requires something like baby shampoo or beer to flush.. It is derived from chili peppers and anyone who has ever tried to clear their mouth of the taste knows, water won’t do it, you need the alcohol to dissolve the oils.

CN and CS both respond well to baking soda in water, but it has to be cold water, as the acids are activated by heat. You do not want to wash your clothes or take a shower in hot water after the experience, or you will be gassed again.

You go through all this so you, hopefully, think twice before using this stuff.

If he was able to run around inside, as described in his article, Howley wasn’t really pepper sprayed beyond some splash-over, because it takes at least 5 minutes before you get any vision back, and longer than that before you can trust your eyes. After detox they made us wait an hour before leaving.

The Park Police know he did it, and they should drop the legal system on his head. A few months in a DC jail will give him some perspective of life among the 99%.

Thanks for the professional tips Bryan.

Bryan, thanks for the advice; I hope I don’t need it soon… but in these times, one never knows.

You know my obsession with equal justice under law and with the observation, in practice not just in principle, of individual civil liberties. One of the most distressing aspects of all these events to me, from Obama’s allowing the Bushists who committed grievous crimes to go scot-free, to the freewheeling use of pepper spray and mace by New York’s white-shirts, is that everyone in actual power seems to have abandoned equal justice, or often enough any sort of justice at all. If you’re on a public street, causing no one harm, and you’re pepper-sprayed, do you really care whether your society’s framework is in principle totalitarian, or its people in power are just acting like it is? De facto fascism is no better than fascism in principle; it’s still devastating to individual freedoms.

As long as I’m handing out information, I forgot an important one for contact lens wearers. If you are gassed or sprayed, your lenses are toast. Get them out of your eyes ASAP. The lenses will absorb some of the chemicals and can’t be detoxed. They will shield the important center of your eyes initially, but they have to go, or they may burn the eyes by prolonged contact.

Cheap wrap-around safety glasses are a good investment if you think you might get sprayed. Most hardware stores carry them.

Excellent advice Bryan. Perhaps these should go into the Bryan-archist’s Cookbook!
