Greenwald: It’s Not Gonna Happen

This is also the Quote of the Moment, but it is the essence of Glenn Greenwald’s excellent post on Obama’s shift into campaign mode:

That’s why – after 2 1/2 years – we suddenly see an outburst of “fighting for jobs” and, now, a call to raise taxes on the rich. [Obama] does that precisely because everyone – especially the rich – knows it will not and cannot happen. We’re now formally in (re-)election season, so it’s time again to haul out the progressive music.

Sadly, it’s true: Obama becomes a “progressive,” but only in his speeches, when an election approaches. On other days (hours, moments) he rips into Medicare and Medicaid. Who are you going to believe, Obama or your lyin’ eyes?

NOTE: this is my 300th post on WordPress. Apparently my grace period is over on inserted ads. I do not in any way endorse the products for which WordPress inserts ads, but I suppose if I use their service “for free” I don’t get any say in the matter. Ignore them if you can.
