Obama Scolds The Base… Again

Back in the Vietnam War era there was a well-known “folk” song called “Where have all the flowers gone.” The concluding refrain of every verse was “When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?” That’s almost applicable to Obama, only in his case it’s “When will he ever learn? When will he ever learn?”

Blue Texan of FDL details how the Scold-in-Chief hectored the Congressional Black Caucus, who, one would think, are about as reliable as members of Obama’s base as anyone. Except that if he keeps telling them “Shake it off. Stop grumbling. Stop crying. We are going to press on. We have work to do,” they are more likely to take offense and shake him off. I know I would be. This is Obama-speak from the same deep-down source as, say, “fucking retards” a year and a half ago. Yes, I know Rahm said that, not Obama. But it’s from the same source: contempt for the base.

And it’s just inexcusable from Obama. The man speaks like a dream when he wants to… inspires, uplifts, ennobles, never mind if the subject matter is true or deserves the treatment he gives it, he is capable of inspiring speech. So why does he choose to sound like a frazzled parent on a day when the kids are acting up? We’re not acting up: we just have legitimate concerns that he needs to answer.

Every time I think about voting for him anyway, out of fear of what a Republican will do as president, I remind myself that Obama has, and shows, no respect for anybody at all. At least some of us are not willing to put up with that crap. Forget it. Would a Republican be worse? Well, of course, in some ways, s/he would, but how much worse could anyone be and expect to win even a rigged election? Jeez, enough is enough!
