DoJ Says Texas Redistricting Plan Discriminated On Purpose

The Justice Department said late Friday that based on their preliminary investigation, a congressional redistricting map signed into law by Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry appears to have been “adopted, at least in part, for the purpose of diminishing the ability of citizens of the United States, on account of race, color, or membership in a language minority group, to elect their preferred candidates of choice to Congress.”

The phrase “race, color, or membership in a language minority group” is a bit misleading: according to research done by the Fed in Dallas, Texas is headed toward becoming a “majority-minority” state, more than half Hispanic, by 2020. So they’re not cheating a language minority group… they’re cheating the soon-to-be majority. Now that’s chutzpah.

Who knows… this revelation may enhance Perry’s chances in GOP presidential primaries. If you’re out to kill representative democracy, there’s no telling how you’ll vote, or what you’ll base your vote on.
