U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) Supports Free Speech… But Not For Democrats

So if individual Democrats decide to videotape his town hall meeting in North Avondale? Well, that happened, and Chabot’s staff directed Cincinnati police to seize the Democrats’ video cameras. This kind of bullshit, along with pay-to-play town hall meetings arranged by other Republicans, tells you everything you need to know about today’s Republican Party. If you want America to be a fascist state… if you want to have no enforceable rights of any kind… vote Republican.

Thanks to snark like Godwin’s Law, the term ‘Fascist’ just doesn’t seem to sink in. What will it take—–billboards? America is going fascist at an alarming rate.

MandT, I paused after I wrote “fascist” because it doesn’t quite describe the behavior (to me, “fascism” means “corporatism,” a merger of corporations and government), but then I let it stand.

You know Chabot wouldn’t have booted his GOP fans for taping him… what do you call someone in Congress who wants to keep his doings secret from possibly half his constituents?

To fully understand the ‘reality’ created by corporate fascism….read Guy Debord’s ‘Society of the Spectacle’ here: http://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/debord/society.htm

MandT, as I have scant tolerance for ideological political philosophy, you’ll forgive me that I read the Cliff’s Notes version instead of the original. You can tell me if the wiki provides a fair representation.

I realize that it’s dense, but a brilliant account of the subliminal power of propaganda to create cultural reality…… What Goebbels called the Big Lie—– American exceptionalism for example, or the mythic narrative of Obama…
