House Dems Reportedly Furious About Deal… And How It Was Crafted

Brian Beutler of TPM tells of a meeting… after the fact, of course, after the deal was crafted with no consultation of House Dems… with VP Joe Biden, in which House members burned his ears with their dissatisfaction, both with the particulars of the bill and with the process by which it was produced. One quote is notable not only for what it expresses but for its mix of metaphors:

The bill, according to Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) pits “our conscience versus our President…. It’s like a Trojan Horse, with Scylla and Charybdis inside.”

Well, I can’t top that for a colorful assessment! Maybe this isn’t over yet. But I know better than to get my hopes up. Wall Street would not tolerate a failure to avoid default, and if I recall correctly, Biden grew up in a tough neighborhood…

Biden was also a key player in the bank/credit industry that made bankruptcy more difficult for middle class families. It was known then as now that the majority of bankruptcies are caused by medical catastrophes. Biden is no every-man’s man.

MandT, Biden is a DINO. He first showed his true colors during the Clinton impeachment, and I haven’t seen anything since then to improve my opinion of him.

The only good news is that this ends the possibility of Zero being re-elected. The economy is going to slip back into recession, and that eliminates any ‘hope’ he had.

He has never talked to the House Democratic caucus, or shown them any respect, so I don’t know why anyone was surprised that they weren’t in the loop on this deal.

Bryan, I wish I were as confident as you that Obama has ended his re-election prospects; I think it still might happen. As to the House Dem caucus, I do not think they were surprised, but some were significantly offended… if Obama had hoped to do anything during the rest of his term, he may find the entire House a challenge.
