Boehner Can’t Get It Up

With (quite appropriately) zero help from Democrats, Boehner has given up for the evening on his attempt to pass his debt limit bill. In some people’s opinion, this strengthens Harry Reid’s hand. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter much at this point.

The very fact that both all three parties in Congress, with Obama’s assistance, are pursuing this last-minute attempt at Republican blackmail or Democratic thwarting of blackmail over a substantially meaningless quantity, rather than passing the damned debt ceiling increase clean, and focusing their efforts on a stimulus to create some jobs, is a sign in my opinion of how far from ordinary people’s daily reality our government is… and thus how liable we are to suffer a major collapse of a sort yet to be determined. I think it overwhelmingly likely that the late great J. M. Keynes will be vindicated, but we will have to wait to see the particulars.

Be prepared: Put your head between your legs… that way, if worse comes to worst, you’ll be ready to kiss your ass goodbye.

All of the fighting is over things that belong in the budget debate and are irrelevant to the debt ceiling. These maroons passed a budget that exceeded the ability of the government revenues to support, and now they don’t want to pay for it. They are deadbeats, plain and simple.

Not quite plain and simple, Bryan… in addition to being deadbeats (in your and my generation’s definition of that word), they have in mind to put Obama in an untenable position… Congress has encumbered that money already so he is obligated to spend it, but the debt ceiling forbids him to spend it. That’s the GOP for you. Personally, I think Obama’s constitutional obligation… to spend the money as Congress has authorized… supersedes his obligation under any mere law. But no one asked me what I think, and I’m not inclined to waste my time feeling sorry for Obama.
