Chris Hedges: We’re Fucked

The works of Chris Hedges have never been a source of any real hope, and I didn’t approach this article with any expectation of such. But this time Hedges has outdone himself. Read it if you dare. Take from it whatever you want: fear, despair, righteous anger, determination that none of it shall actually happen. But Hedges is quite certain that we’re beyond all that, and outlines the socio-politico-environmental catastrophe into which, he says, we shall all be inexorably drawn.

“Down the drain” is inadequate as a metaphor, and most of us have never encountered a sinkhole in the real world, but I imagine that might be a better one, if Hedges is right.

Have a nice day! 😈

What exists superior to hope is human connection, alliances and compassion, plus the necessity of kick ass when in defense. We enter the maelstrom of libertarian anarchy.

MandT, we can only hope that our kick is more than equal to their ass. Out of curiosity… did you read that article, or listen to it? I did both, and despite the deliberately deadpan reading, I found it far more moving that way than in print.

It was a stunning and revealing article, completely in synch with the developing history of end stage capitalism. As a Buddhist I do not advocate violence, but as an historian, know with out a doubt that it is inevitable. Considering the Obama Administration’s full embrace of the unitary presidency, I fear it may happen in our lifetime.

MandT, based on the approaching global climate change alone, if there were no other catastrophes headed our way, I think we’re in for some very hard times in the next two or three decades, and I wouldn’t bet against civil unrest, probably some of it violent. Batten the hatches!
