Interviews With Lawrence Wilkerson

Lawrence Wilkerson, retired military officer who served in Vietnam, subsequently taught at the Naval War College and later directed the Marine Corps War College, served as advisor in multiple presidential administrations, became Colin Powell’s assistant in Powell’s term as Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Gulf War and again later when Powell was Secretary of State, and upon retirement became a critic of just about everything military- or intelligence-related in the Reagan/Bush/Bush era, offers an ongoing series of interviews by Paul Jay of The Real News Network. Whatever you may think of this one-time Eisenhower Republican who worked for subsequent less savory Republican presidents, whatever mistakes he may have made in his advisory career (e.g., preparing Powell’s infamous presentation to the U.N. in 2003), he offers many clear-minded insights into the reasons certain things happened as they did.

There are six interviews as of this writing; all are short… 10 or 15 minutes each… and for most people interested in American government they are well worth the time to watch. The linked index is blog-ordered; start at the bottom of the list of interviews.

This is reminiscent of Kevin Phillips ( he of the Nixon Southern strategy) spending the last decade publishing detailed mea culpas revealing the true nature of republican fascism.

MandT, did you actually watch the interviews? or have you decided your conclusion about them a priori?

It seems to me that Wilkerson has for practical purposes come over to our side. Conclusions matter more than categories. I, for one, am happy to accept genuine converts, and I believe he is exactly that.

Wilkerson has for practical purposes come over to our side—yes, concurred. Another in this category is Paul Craig Roberts, the Reagan economist.

Paul Craig Roberts… it’s been years since I thought about him. Maybe I’ll try to find where he’s writing now. In the early days of Junior Bush, Roberts wrote some doozies!
