New Mexico To Stop Food Stamps For Elderly

Read about it here. It’s a damned AP article, so I won’t quote from it. The essence: the state’s Human Services Dept. cannot continue assistance to the indigent elderly because there’s no money in the budget for the purpose. To this point, the federal assistance came to $16/month, to which the state added $9. Not exactly living high on the hog, is it? But even that will be gone now.

Starvation in America: it’s a “conservative” thing.

and of course, if you ask any of those conservatives, they will tell you that this sort of thing (no food stamps for the elderly, etc) are precisely what makes the US superior to other countries.

c! what a pleasure to hear from you! Expect an email from me via my public email address, doggerelist@stephenbates.com … I look forward to catching up on the latest news from both of us.

My blogging buddy BadTux (see BadTux the Snarky Penguin on the blogroll) reported recently on a conversation he had when he attended a GOP meet-and-greet (to gather info only; BT is not that different from me politically), and when he inquired about the sort of thing you mentioned, though with respect to children rather than seniors, he was informed “well, they just should have chosen better parents.” Shades of Reuel Stallone’s tongue-in-cheek 10 Rules…
